5 Powerful Poses for your Next Branding Shoot

1) The what-do-I-do-with-my-hands?

During a session with our team, we’re always watching your hands to make sure they’re placed in a comfortable and natural looking position. One of our favourite poses at the moment is holding onto your wrist and/or forearm with your opposite hand. It lengthens your chest and shoulders and looks comfortable and natural!

2) Ballerina Toes & Triangles

You’ll often hear us telling clients to stand up on the balls of their feet and/or point their toes during sessions. This elongates the legs and creates a natural triangle shape. We’re also big fans of hips turning inwards and arms on hips. Its powerful, its natural, its one of our favs!

3) Interacting with your environment

Before your session, we’ll often guide clients by asking them to bring some props with them to their session. Props allow you to tell a story about what it is you do, but they also give you a natural tool to engage with. Grabbing a phone, leaning on a counter and/or railing all look natural and welcoming.

4) Introducing Movement & Action

A great way to loosen up nerves? Telling you to ‘do’ something during your session. Moving through an action (i.e., walking, holding, hanging) looks natural and creative and allows for different angles and interpretation.

5) The not-so-candid, candid

We often hear from clients that they don’t like ‘posed’ images of themselves and instead prefer candids. Well, it can be a bit more difficult to get naturally candid photos during your session (though not impossible). One way we do this is by instructing you to do ‘candid’ actions like fixing your hair, looking over your shoulder or gazing out the window. Through prompts and conversation, we might even get you to laugh!
